One More from SDCC…
I try really hard when I do a comic-con to only do commissions while there, and not ahead of time or take them home and ship them later. This is for two reasons. First, it makes this kind of thing unique in that you can only get one these from me at a comic con, and it’s (mostly) the only time I work in brush pen and Copic markers. Second, I am usually swamped with freelance work right after being away from the studio, so it takes me a while to get to any commissions, which I always feel bad about. The Lovely Anna is pretty good at estimating how long it will take me to do the commissions she lines up, so I rarely end up bringing any home.
This is a rare instance when I had to take one home with me. The customer dropped off this blank MAD sketch cover and paid for an inked and colored drawing, to be picked up on the last day of San Diego Comic Con. Anna didn’t write down any other info, and when I got to his drawing in the queue we both realized we had no idea what he wanted me to do! We kept hoping he’d come by early on the last day so we could get the details and I could still get it done, but alas he stopped in with about 30 minutes left in the show. So, I had to do this one at home.
Turns out he wanted Alfred as Spider-Man. You’ll notice it’s been over a week since SDCC ended and I just finished it the other day. That’s what I hate about taking commissions home. The nice thing is for once I can actually scan it as opposed to taking some lousy picture of it at the convention.
