Online Workshop Coming Soon!
Last weekend I was in Chicago teaching my last makeup workshop of 2020. I still have one that was postponed twice in the New York area to do, but I am not going to reschedule that one until I am sure it will not have to be postponed again. As of now I am not scheduling any new in-person workshops, and will not schedule any until the pandemic is well and truly over and there will be no need for postponements or cancellations. That will likely not be until the second half of 2021, or maybe even a full year from now.
Ever since I started doing these workshops, I’ve had people ask me to do a virtual one online. I get it. It’s hard and expensive to travel, and to set aside a whole weekend to attend. Personally I much prefer an in-person learning experience, but I understand the convenience and accessibility of an online resource.
Well, if the coronavirus pandemic has any upside to it, it’s that many of the things we used to have to go out to get and do are now available online. My caricature workshop is about to be one of them.
Caricaturist and filmmaker Greg Feinberg and I have been putting together a virtual workshop that will be a series of on-demand videos based on the in-person classes I’ve been doing for the last few years. It will consist of seven 45-60 minute videos, instantly accessible, where I teach my approach to caricature, share my process, go over how to draw/caricature individual features, and do a lesson on live caricature. It’s just like my traveling workshop, but you don’t have to wear pants when you do it.
I’ll be drawing and teaching as I go. Students will get a book full of the same faces I’ll be drawing and should be drawing along with me. By the end of the workshop you should have a a stack of drawings you completed along with me.
There is an interactive element to the virtual workshop. When you are ready, you will be able to upload the drawings you did for the workshop and I will record a video critique. I will draw on top of your work and examine what you are doing well and what you need to work on. That video will be downloadable.
When will this all be ready? By the end of the year. I’m hoping we’ll have it together for next month but we still have a lot of filming and editing to do, and we need to get the hosting and logistics figured out. As far as pricing, that will depend somewhat on the costs of hosting and processing, but it will certainly be significantly cheaper than my in-person workshops.
Look for more on this as we get closer to launching them.

HI Tom. This is the best news in these current circumstances. I could not realistically come to Europe or USA and manage the expenses but I have wished with my whole heart to be there. Please may you advise on costs on time? I don’t want to miss this. I have had a few chats with you on email.
Thanks, Tom!
