Quick Newspaper Spot
December 20th, 2008 | Posted in Freelancing
Too busy for a lengthy post today so instead here is the first of an ongoing series of caricature spot illustrations for The Independent, a local North Carolina newspaper. It’s a small image for the header of a column on local NC politicians, printing about 3.5 x 4 inches or so. The column runs tomorrow.

Wow, that’s a huge head! Appropriate for a politician, but even more appropriate for a tiny image, as I’m sure is the reason.
You are exactly right. Ordinarily the huge head/little body school of caricature is frowned upon in the illustration world, but in certain instances it’s necessary. In this particular case the image is going to be so small in print that it needed the big head for the person to be recognized.
