San Diego Comic Con Report!
I’m sitting in my hotel room in San Diego packing up and getting ready to drive… yes DRIVE… back to Minnesota tomorrow with Number One Son Thomas. We had to stay and extra night because I had a job for the next issue of MAD due today and pulled an all-nighter to wrap it up by about 3 pm San Diego time. Then Tom and I wondered around the Gaslamp district where we didn’t have to wade through the enormous Comic-Con crowds anymore. Very relaxing and healing. Anyway it was thanks to that MAD job I have been remiss in my blogging this week. My apologies.
The convention was busy and fun. Regular readers will know I had my own booth this year. It went very well and I’ll definitely be do that again next year. Here are some highlights:
Signing and numbering some “Men of Steel” prints
Definite highlight: One of my favorite SNL cast members Bobby Moynihan stopped by and commissioned me to do a “Drunk Uncle” sketch in his sketchbook.
I also did a caricature of Bobby and his very sweet girlfriend Brynn… wonderful people!
Son Tom and daughter Victoria did some Doctor Who cosplay. Tom is the “Ultimate Doctor” with elements from all 13 Doctors in his outfit, and Victoria is the Tardis.
Tom with the cutest 5th Doctor at SDCC
Thanks to all who stopped by the booth! See you next year!

Looked like a blast. Safe travels and thanks for sharing!
You were definitely busy, what with the convention as well as your regular work for the magazine. Was your MAD job a TV or a movie satire?
Great photos! So cool to see that Thomas, Victoria and Gabrielle all looked to be having such a good time, too. Thank you for sharing, Tom. Looking forward to your MAD #535 contribution!
