Sketch o’the Week
December 29th, 2010 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week
The Lovely Anna and I went to see “True Grit” this past weekend. I loved it… she was ambivalent. Must be a guy flick. Jeff Bridges was fantastic and the trademark razor sharp dialogue of the Cohen Brother’s films was very prevalent. Sketch done with a Uni-ball Vision Micro-tip ball point pen… not much of a caricature but and interesting face to draw.

Not much of a caricature!1 What the hey?! It really
captures the actor and the role! Grit almost made my top ten list.
Guess I can’t get John Wayne out of my head. And , of course, that
fantastic rendering of him by Drucker for the MAD movie parody!
It’d be great if MAD did a parody of the new version! Ah well, a
guy can dream…
I Love it, Tom! I’m blown away by your ability to caricature Rooster Cogburn, the character, rather than Jeff Bridges the actor. I know the difference is minimal but the impact is huge.
Awesome work. Ballpoint pens can be amazing tools.
Hi Tom great lines with the vall point pen, it captures a real western look. Take care.
wow tom, wow.
Nice. You should consider turning pro.
Tom that is a really great sketch! Wishing you and Anna & the family a very Happy New Year!
Nice one Tom!
Thanks, everybody!
All I could think while looking at that is: Wow, there’s a LOT of cross hatching with that pen in the eye patch and on the under side of the hat!! 🙂 It makes my wrist tired just thinking about it!!!!
Just saw “True Grit”, so when I saw this caricature, I just had to show my husband. We loved that movie! You captured Rooster well!
