Sketch o’the Week
October 8th, 2008 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week
As promised, a sketch of actor Nathan Fillion. I am not really familair with the actor, as I have only seen the Firefly movie (once) and no episodes of the show nor seen him in any other programs.
My observations: He has wide set eyes and a wide nose bridge. He has a somewhat flat and broad nose all the way to his nostrils. His brow is very pronounced. His jaw is square but he has a small chin, and a narrow mouth with thin lips. His eyes have an odd “walleye” sort of look like they are starting off in slightly different directions. Low forehead.
I drew this at the Minnesota FallCon comic book convention on Sunday. After looking at it I am not sure the likeness is all that strong, but it’s close.

Hey Tom, first of all great blog… I’ve been a big fan of your blog for quite some time. Finally registered so I can comment.
I think one of the things I’ve noticed of Nathan Fillion (I’ve never seen him in action, just in photos) is that the lower half of his face seens “pushed” to the left (our left that is), so, because of this all his facial features “bend” to the left. His mouth is higher on the left side, his nose is a little pulled to the left… And so on.
Another thing that I’ve noticed is that his nose is actually very flat, like round and flat.
The caricature is good man, I can really remember of him.
Cheers!
How’s this for a likeness compliment:
I didn’t recognize the name – and I’ve never seen an episode of Firefly (though it’s a popular subject when it comes to commissions) and I’ve certainly never seen an episode of One Life to Live. But I knew I recognized the face. A quick search revealed his place on Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place – one of my favorite shows back in the late 90’s.
Good job!

Terrific sketch of Captain Tight-Pants ( as he’s called by Serenity fans). You really got that small lower face and small, thin lips. A lot of fans call him the heir to Harrison Ford and in your sketch I can see a bit of old Han. Great job!
Thanks vguys, and thanks for registering, Shiva!
