Sketch o’the Week: Indy!
“Throw me the idol and I’ll throw you the whip!”
The opening scene from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” introduced the world to Indiana Jones in 1981, and movies were never the same. Harrison Ford was already a big star thanks to playing Han Solo in “Star Wars”, “The Empires Strikes back” and, of course, television’s immortal “The Star Wars Holiday Special”. But jumping from one hugely popular action hero to another (and back and forth), and ultimately another widely successful movie franchise, launched his career into the stratosphere. Just a year after “Raiders” he’d play Rick Deckard in another sci-fi classic, “Blade Runner”. He of course went on to become one of the biggest movie stars ever.
And he’s still playing Indiana Jones:
