Stuff from my Studio: Me Sculptures!
These two sculptured caricatures of me that adorn my studio shelves are by some insanely talented friends of mine.
The top one is by Celestia Ward, who along with husband Robert Sundin III (a.k.a. Sundini) own Two Head Studios and are prominent caricaturists in the Las Vegas area. Celestia does 2D and 3D work, among a lot of other creative endeavors. If her name seems familiar to you (and you have read my book The Mad Art of Caricature) that’s because she was that book’s editor!! She did this sculpture for my 35th birthday in 2001. She is depicting me at the drawing board, airbrush in hand, working on a MAD piece.
The lower one is by Heather Nameth (née Bren) and is actually a bobblehead, done I believe for my 40th birthday in 2006. Rumor had it I subsisted primarily on Powerbars and Monster Energy drinks at that time… which is largely true. I’m not sure where she got the “Batman” part from. This sculpture used to have a few steroid needles stuck in my arm apparently because Heather believed I used steroids with my bodybuilding. I never used steroids, but bless her for thinking that I did. Heather is now a professor of art at Northwestern University in St. Paul and (surprise!) an artist specializing in ceramics.
I love these two pieces and they have always had a special place in the studio. Thank you, ladies!!!
