Sunday Mailbag
Q: You love to write and illustrate. Have you written any of your own books, if not when will you?
A: No, I have never written a book. I am currently working (inbetween everything else) on a “How to Draw Caricatures” book, but every time I think I’ll have a little time to work on it some big job comes along and it’s shoved to the back burner.
Currently the big job keeping me from working on the caricature book is, coincidentally, a book… written by someone else, however. This project will take me the entire month of May, but the end result I hope will be something I am proud of.
Writing is something I enjoy but not something I feel I am professionally good at. Maybe one of these days I will have a brainstorm and come up with a really good idea that I can run with… but I’m still waiting for that epiphany.
Thanks to Michael Garisek for the question. If you have a question you want answered for the mailbag about cartooning, illustration, MAD Magazine, caricature or similar, e-mail me and I’ll try and answer it here!

Speaking of epiphanies, I had one last weekend. Maybe it will help you. When in doubt, I think to myself, “WWTRD?” Then I do the opposite and all is well again. ___Sincerely,

You should definitely do a “how to do caricature” book. Your tutorials are the most informative ones I have found on the net about caricature. Can’t thank you enough for sharing that information so freely.
I also wouldn’t mind knowing what tools professional caricaturists use. Please include that in your book if you do it. Maybe it could be a question for your next Sunday Mailbag? What tools does a caricaturist at a park use? lines with markers or pencils? colors with airbrush or colored pencil sticks? I guess all that can be used, but if I want to try it out on my free time, whats the cheapest way to try it out?
I’ve been meaning to write and ask about the caricature book for quite some time. Glad to hear it’s still in the works. Please write some more details about the book in another blog sometime!
Give the Lovely Anna a video camera for her birthday and have her videotape you doing some lesson. Make a DVD and I’ll be first in line to buy it.
Or…I’ll buy the book.
[…] just because I like caricature work, I hope this book gets completed […]
