Teaching Today

Well, not really, but sort of.

Minneapolis has an art college called the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, which is one of only a handful of schools in the country with a full degree and program in cartooning. It’s mostly centered on comic book and graphic storytelling, but also encompasses cartooning in it’s many forms. MCAD was very gracious in hosting an art show and speaking event for our National Cartoonist Society North Central Chapter meeting this fall. Read about the event here and here. During the show’s opening I was asked if I was interested in speaking at the school and/or participating in a class or two within the comic’s program. Of course I was very interested in that… I wish there would have been even one class in cartooning or comics to be taken when I was in college. Alas, it was all bowls of fruit and fat naked ladies for me back then.

Today I will be at MCAD doing a Q&A with a cartooning class taught by comic book and inking great Terry Beatty. I will have to dig up some of my old Batman comics that he worked on and get him to sign one.

That leaves little time to blog. I am currently working on a short series of posts about my workout philosophies and programs at the request of several readers. That will probably start on Monday.
