Tom’s Daily Coronacature: Rihanna!

April 2nd, 2020 | Posted in Daily Coronacature

Here’s my take on today’s subject: Rihanna!

Rihanna is a beautiful woman, and many people struggle to caricature beautiful people. That’s because all too often people expect caricatures to exaggerate what would be considered a person’s flaws… big noses, small chins, etc. Caricature is all about exaggerating what makes a person unique and recognizable from the next person. Those things can quite easily be elements of beauty as well as those of goofy.

Rihanna has heavily lidded eyes, and her irises are a light, intense green that gives her a vey haunting look. She has a small nose but it is rather wide. She has very string cheekbones and brows, especially how they protrude sharply over the outside corners of her eyes. He has a lot of forehead a quite a strong chin.

  1. Lincoln says:

I have another theory on why people find it hard to caricature beautiful people. I’ve seen studies which suggest that our ideals of beauty are closely correlated with the average measurements of the human face. The closer the measurements of a particular face match the average, the more attractive it will appear, but at the same time it will be more difficult to find the features that make the face unique. This is particularly the case for anyone thinking about caricature using the Lenn Redman approach, which is all about looking for the measurements that vary from the norm.
