Weekly Newspaper Spot
February 9th, 2009 | Posted in On the Drawing Board
Here is this week’s column spot illustration for “The Independent“. I am told this feature will have a total of eight of these caricatures. This is number seven. This has been a fun little project because these illustrations are done quickly and loosely, without a lot of overthinking.

Fantastic illustration Tom! Would be interesting to hear how you put the white ‘splash’ lines together on the background?
Very simple. I used the airbrush tool to create the gray graded burst and then the line tool to draw lines emanating from a center point out to the white of the surrounding area. I did not bother to make the lines symmetrical or evenly spaced… it’s just a quick and easy dynamic background effect to go with the “action” pose.
This could be a snowman killer!
Great spot Tom! And thanks for answering my question yesterday. It helps a lot!
Enjoy the body idea here, Tom
I will have to remember this.
Your twits are nice to follow…
Cheers
