Yvonne Craig, R.I.P.
I’m forgoing my Sketch o’the Week this week to show this illustration I did in honor of Yvonne Craig, who passed away Monday at 78 after a two year battle with breast cancer.
I had an enormous crush on Ms. Craig as a kid when I loved the Batman TV show. Then I had a different sort of …. uh…. crush on her when I realized as a teenager she played a scantily clad green Orion slave girl who tried to seduce and kill Kirk in an episode of the original Star Trek series. No doubt she played many other roles, but those were the only two I ever saw. Anyway she was an extremely beautiful woman and played a female superhero back when female superheroes weren’t exactly staples of TV or films.
I did the above caricature of her for the Cartoon Network’s MAD animated show. It was used in a segment called “Batman Family Feud”. Here’s a clip:
